Alessandro De Zanet
YCN representative for the Italian Ceramic Society
Leonardo Labs - Italy
Dr. Alessandro De Zanet works as a Materials and Processes Researcher within the Materials Technologies team at Leonardo Labs, an innovative technological hub of the Leonardo company based in Italy. His research primarily focuses on adhesion technologies such as coating, joining, and surface treatments, as well as ceramics for aerospace applications.
Alessandro earned his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology from the Polytechnic of Turin. His dissertation, titled "Plasma-based Surface Treatment for Improving Joint Strength of Joined Ceramics and Ceramic Matrix Composites," concentrated on identifying and selecting surface treatments to enhance the joint performance of non-oxide ceramics and ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) in aerospace and energy fields. His research specifically explored atmospheric-pressure plasmas, which hold potential for industrial use. These treatments aimed to modify the surface texture to improve the adhesion of the joining material by promoting interlocking mechanisms at the surface.
Alessandro strongly believes in the importance of collaboration as a crucial element in the realm of research and innovation. For this reason, he actively supports the ceramists' community. In 2019, he joined The American Ceramic Society, where he has served in various roles as a volunteer, previously as a moderator and content creator for the online community of the Energy Materials and Systems division and now as Cochair of the Young Professional Network. Additionally, he is involved in the ACerS Italy Chapter, providing
support in organizing events such as "Le mille vite del vetro," a biennial event focused on sharing insights on results from advanced research on glasses and glass-ceramics.
His new role as YCN representative for Italy marks another significant step in his journey to contribute to the global ceramists' community, and he is motivated to give his best in this endeavor.
