Cristina became a Doctor in 2021 with the highest qualification of CUM LAUDE along with the International Mention within the interuniversity Doctoral Program “Science and Technology of New Materials” held by the University of Extremadura and Seville (Spain). Her Doctoral Thesis was about “Processing of new ultra-hard B4C composite materials by transient liquid-phase assisted spark plasma sintering” and it was awarded by the Ceramic and Glass Spanish Society (SECV-YOUNEXA) with the second prize in the third edition for the best Doctoral Thesis defended between 01/03/2020 and 31/01/2022.

The scope of her research is focused on processing ceramic composites based on super–hard and ultra–hard phases (carbides, borides, carbonitrides, etc.). These ceramics excel for their resistance to wear and contact damage, high temperatures and chemically aggressive environments (oxidation, corrosion, etc.) which is in line with the continuous demand of advanced materials in several industrial applications, such as sliding or ball bearings, cutting tools, etc., as well as protecting elements against ballistic impact (armours, bullet–proof vests, etc.)

During her PhD she did two predoctoral stays. The first one, at the Institute of Ceramics and Glass (CSIC) in Madrid and the second, funded by the JECs Trust, in the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Copenhagen. At present she has a Postdoctoral Fellowship that was held at the University of Aveiro in 2023 and it continues at the University of Seville until the end of 2024.

She considers herself a warm, empathetic, hardworking, responsible person, with a great willingness to collaborate as a team member and with the ability to face new challenges. After several national and international experiences, she believes that the best projects in which she has participated were those involving a multidisciplinary and multicultural group. She has been in a closer contact with the Young Ceramic Network (YCN) during 2023 in several events where she had the chance to get to know their fruitful work, the range of opportunities that the young ceramist researchers may have access to and specially the effort and enthusiasm of the members of this wonderful community by making all this possible. Therefore, she takes with a great willingness and commitment the responsibility of being the Spanish representative for the Young Ceramic Network during the 2024-2025 period together with other representative fellows from almost 40 countries all over the world.
